There are a collection of services in Nextcloud that help to facilitate communications with other users of the Nextcloud instance and the outside world.

Video, Voice, and Text communications within the Nextcloud instance or via public links. You can have one on one as well as group conversations and can link conversations to a file or other items for example to converse about a document that you are [collaboratively editing](/services/office).

In addition to through the web interface, Nextcloud talk has dedicated apps to enable the communications functions on devices.

The Contacts app stores and organizes the information about folks you have or might wish to communicate with. There is also an instance wide contact book that can help you connect with anyone else with a Nextcloud account on this server. Your contacts can also be synced with device contact books for seamless usage wherever you want to be able to connect with a specific person.

Groups are like a page or section of your physical contacts book. Circles are like a team chatroom with additional controls and options for how the circle is managed.
